ARTIST'S STATEMENT

Concentration is composed of many scraps of hand dyed and commercial cotton fabrics left over from other work to create new imagery that I envision to be like the brain and the eye. With the brain, there is a gathering of information and experiences that form a concentration of thoughts and ideas. With the eye one sees color. In Concentration, I grouped the reds together. The viewer is invited to solve the puzzle. Do you see the shape and color or the mysteries of ideas forming in the brain?

Inspired by the bridges over the Ohio River, The Journey Begins is the first in a series based on bridge imagery, utilizing my hand-dyed cottons mixed with commercial fabrics. Seeing a bridge creates an emotion in me of opportunities and beginnings, whether it is a specific trip or a philosophy on life. I chose to celebrate this joy and adventure by focusing on a few soaring girders of a bridge. the quilt stitches create texture and add sparkle to the work.
