ARTIST'S STATEMENT

Sallie Clay Lanham, an accomplished painter and teacher, is a resident of Frankfort, Kentucky. Since graduation from the Art Academy of Cincinnati, she has been an art teacher, graphic designer and art director with work reproduced locally and nationally.

Sallie was an art educator at Capital Day School for eighteen years. In 1996, she was a founding member of the Capital Area Art Guild board. Working with this organization, she started the annual art show for all Frankfort/Franklin County students including home schools. She is also a volunteer art teacher/board member of the King Center, a youth activity center located in the South Frankfort neighborhood.

Sallie's work has been exhibited in many juried shows, such as the Kentucky Watercolour Society's Totally Transparent; Chicago area Northwest Arts Council's Women's Works; Lexington Art League's Fine Art of Fine Wine, Masterpieces of Maturity and Language Traveling exhibition with Ecuador; Kentucky Arts Council's Kentucky Visions; Frankfort Arts Foundation Artist Showcase grant winner; and the Central Kentucky Art Guild's Fine Art Exhibition.

She also received a fellowship sponsored by the Kentucky Foundation for Women. Solo shows include one at the Lexington Central Bank as well as shows in Ashland, Louisville, Frankfort, Kentucky, and Woodstock, Illinois. Sallie was grand champion at the Franklin County Fair several times and Capital Expo artist awards, etc.

Her paintings adorn many walls throughout Kentucky and the United States.
