ARTIST'S STATEMENT"Many artists are the great imbalanced, trying to orchestrate and cajole their unnamed fears and hang-ups onto a page or canvas, sculpture or song, twisting the already twisted into something of interest or curiosity, beauty or truth. Lemons into lemonade. As for style, one must try to keep an open mind. I like to think (when I wonder how or if my art will be perceived down the road) that my "style" will be revealed only in retrospect, distant relations who find something in common. In the end, it's all about balance, is what I tell my sons. If I had any sense, I'd be a photographer, traipsing around hills full of trees and cities full of people, all day long. But I sure do like making art". John lives in Lexington and recently traded his art director job for a freelance design business, to devote more time to art. |
