ARTIST'S STATEMENT

As an artist I have always been fascinated with clay and the vessel form as a means of expression. Most of my work is thrown on the wheel, and though traditional in form, the finished pieces have a contemporary look to them. Almost all of my pottery features a textured decoration made from stamps I have made from the same clay. The decorative motifs have been drawn from multi-ethnic sources. For example, the interlocking square and cross is an oriental symbol showing there is no beginning and there is no end. Others still are simplified shapes found in nature such as a seashell or insect.

I finish my work with my own glaze formulations. All of the glazes used are lead free. Right now, four of the glazes that I use the most have a semi-matte finish and are unusual in color, which adds to the contemporary feel of each piece. All of my work is oxidation fired to cone 6, in a 33 cubic foot kiln I built next to my studio.

I create work that covers a large price range; and is also dishwasher, oven, and microwave safe.

I always tell people to pick up the pot and experience it.
