ARTIST'S STATEMENTWhen photographing, I notice particular subject matter in the presence of certain light or light in the presence of certain subject matter which together promise an image that will occasion pleasant surprise, a characteristic of much art, even that which depicts the disagreeable. I then work very carefully on framing to imbue the image with design attributes, which hopefully contribute to the fulfillment of this promise. I have found that subject matter need not be extraordinary in any obvious way. I would say that, with few exceptions, most of the subject matter of my images is mundane. If its image has transcending significance, that is due to the co-present light and the framing. Why I notice that which I do remains a mystery. |
