Art works to preserve the character of our commonwealth, which is our legacy to the future. The rich heritage of Kentucky is passed down in storytelling, dance, literature, filmmaking, woodworking, painting, musicin the aggregate of art produced by our citizens.
FACTIn FY2001, the Kentucky Arts Council awarded $3,143,720 in 265 grants to organizations, $288,360 in 130 grants to schools, and $189,934 in 102 grants and awards to artists. Grants or services are provided by the Arts Council to every county in Kentucky.

Sometimes we try to match our history by the wars we have won. That doesnt last very long. But all I have to do is mention Beethovens Fifth Symphony, Raphael, Milton, Shakespeareand you know exactly what Im talking about. Those are the things that make us most proud, those are the things that make us most human, and those are the things that make us most humane.
