Dear
Fellow Kentuckians,
We honor the "Unbridled Spirit" of those Kentuckians
who have made our Commonwealth a very special place to live, through their
commitment and achievements in the arts. The 2004 recipients of the Governor's
Awards in the Arts have made significant contributions to Kentucky in many
different ways. Some have brought national recognition to Kentucky as the place
where stars are born. Some recipients are arts institutions and organizations
that have brought communities together and enhanced the education of our
children and adults alike, through the arts. Others have spent a lifetime
preserving Kentucky's arts traditions and expanding multi-cultural
opportunities for all Kentuckians. Businesses and media have also demonstrated
the important roles they play in creating a thriving arts community.
Their accomplishments signal a better understanding about the power of
the arts in creating a better Kentucky for all of us. The arts stimulate
economic growth, create jobs and build a better workforce for tomorrow. We see
that the arts inspire each of us to learn, work smarter, enjoy life and become
more involved in our communities. I hope you'll join me in celebrating and
honoring the arts throughout Kentucky.
The Honorable Ernie
Fletcher
Governor, Commonwealth of Kentucky
Brook Forrest White, Jr. of Louisville, Kentucky, has created the awards. Each piece is a hand blown glass vessel from the "Noble Series."
